The Bible recognises three distinct groups of people with whom God relates differently: The Jews, Gentiles and the Church. The Gentiles were a people not in covenant with God because they did not live a life well-pleasing to God after the fall.
While the Church came under the covenant of grace through the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul made mention of the three groups when he said in his admonitions to the Corinthians, “Give none offence to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the Church of God” (1 Cor.10;32 NKJV). The Gentiles were the only group of people on earth from the time Adam was driven out of the garden of Eden until the time of Abraham.
Abraham was called out of the Gentile by God, this also influenced Isaac, and Jacob by covenant, through Jacob who later became Israel a second group- *the Jews(Hebrew)* was established by God as His chosen people (See Gen.12).
So from the time of Abraham until time of Jesus, there were two groups of people on earth, on one hand, is His chosen people, His holy nation, and other groups of people the Gentiles.
What a privilege we have to belong to Jesus!
When Jesus was crucified and resurrected, He made a sacrifice for the redemption of humanity and He became the head of the new group of everyone who believes in His death and resurrection- the Church.
So, for everyone who believes in Him, they are neither Jew or Gentile but are part of His body a new creation. These groups enter into a covenant of grace made possible by the shedding of the blood of Jesus for the remission of sins.
(See Matt.26:28).
The newness of life in a believer contrary to that of the earthly man – the Gentiles nor that of the Jew through whom salvation comes via Jesus.
Paul explained this to the Ephesians saying, That as an earthly man- the Gentiles, you have no relationship with Christ, and alien to the commonwealth of Israel, “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ” (Eph.2:11-13).
Friends, to rightly divide the word of God and glean understanding, we must have the knowledge of the fact that the Bible addresses these three groups. All scriptures are profitable for us as the Church, but not every scripture is specifically for the Church.
How many times we take scriptures that are written for the Gentiles, or the Jews and apply it to the church, the reason why some are confused thinking the written word in the Bible is confusing.
