You are snared by the words of your mouth; You are taken by the words of your mouth —Prov.6:2 NKJV

Confession proceeds from the mouth, it is conceived in the heart and proceeds through what we say. The moment we confess what we imagine either good or bad, we are slain by our confession.

In the midst of gross uncertainties and concerns what we confess is very important. This is because our confession has a lot to do with what we become. As a man thinks in his heart so he is. Our salvation has a lot to do with our confession after hearing the word of God.

“For with the heart one believes unto righteousness,  and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Rom.10:10 NKJV). Confession is also a statement of fact or an act of telling the truth or giving a true account of an occurrence.

When the Israelites were plagued because Achan took an accursed thing, Joshua pleaded with him passionately and said, ” make confession to him” concerning his deeds (See Josh.7:19). And Achan open his mouth and confessed and said, “Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel,  and this is what I have done” vs.20

Achan disobedience led to the death of many he sinned against the Lord, as a deterrent to the new Israelites, he was punished for his evil deeds. We can also confess to good deeds and be rewarded with eternal life. Paul admonished Timothy to contend for the gospel against all trials and temptations “to lay hold of eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” (1Tim.6:12 NKJV)

Christ gave a good confession concerning Himself before the Sanhedrin against their false charge when they asked him  “Are you the king of the Jew?” He simply replied to them, It is as you say (Matt.27:11). Paul referred to this in 1Tim.6:13.

Friends, be mindful of your confession,  be truthful and positive about life, avoid irrational confession when you are under pressure. When we embrace the love of God and obey Him in all things we are sure to have good confession born out of the knowledge and assurance of who we believe.

Let us consider the Apostle and High priest of our confession, Christ Jesus.
